When John Spira went missing he was wearing blue jeans, a black turtleneck sweater, black shoes and an olive green aviator jacket. In addition to running his business (Universal Cable Construction out of West Chicago Illinois), he was a popular blues musician and even had the nickname of "Chicago Johnny." When he went missing he was 45-years-old and five-foot-eight-inches tall. He had brown hair and blue eyes and was 165 pounds. About 2 a.m. three men entered a home on the 800 block of Busch Road and shot the occupants,Two people are in critical condition and no description of the suspects is available. At approximately 3:50 a.m., Warrenville Police discovered seven garage doors and approximately 30 vehicles vandalized with graffiti, in the Winchester subdivision.  The property had been spray painted with green and orange paint that appears to be gang graffiti. HANOVER PARK   07/18/2009

The FBI and Hanover Park police are investigating a robbery at the First Eagle Bank on Lake Street early Saturday afternoon.The robber fled that bank at 1040 E. Lake St., with an undetermined amount of cash. It's unclear whether a weapon was used, but no injuries were reported.Hanover Park Village President Rodney Craig confirmed the robbery took place, but could not comment on details until the FBI completed its investigation. At approximately 5:00 AM Winfield Police responded to Walgreen’s, 27w171 Geneva Rd. for an alarm activation.  Upon arrival police observed forced entry to the front sliding doors.  Officers searched the interior for the offender with negative results.  After reviewing security video the offender is observed wearing a dark colored hooded jacket, baseball hat, blue jeans, white shoes.  Offender removed several cartons of cigarettes from behind the register using three white garbage bags. BLOOMINGDALE   05/23/2009The Bloomingdale Police Department is investigating an Armed Robbery that occurred at 334 W. WEST CHICAGO  05/13/2009

The West Chicago Police Department has seen multiple cases of burglary to motor vehicles in the months of April and May.  These primarily occurred during the overnight hours throughout the downtown residential area (being the area between Washington St. and National St., as well as Arbor Ave. and Rt 59).  The common factors in these cases is that all the vehicles were unlocked and similar items were taken from within (coins, GPS units, window mounts, chargers), all of which were in plain sight.  Anyone with information regarding these incidents should contact the West Chicago Police Department at (630) 293-2222. WEST CHICAGO  04/14/2009

West Chicago police are investigating a robbery that happened at a bakery on the 500 block of Main Street. A man entered the bakery about 9:40 a.m. (Monday) and asked questions about the baked goods before striking the cashier in the head with an empty bottle. The man then ordered the victim to hand over all the money in the register. When the cashier hesitated, the suspect said he had a gun. The victim gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash. The man fled and entered a black, newer-model SUV, possibly a Dodge Durango or Chevy Trailblazer. He was last seen driving west on Main Street. The rober was described as a Hispanic, about 24 years old, with black hair worn in a spiky style. He stands about 5 feet 7 inches with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a blue, square stud earring in his left ear, a white "Corona" T-shirt and black pants. HANOVER PARK  11/22/2008

Hanover Park police are investigating a homicide of a 56-year-old woman found incapacitated in the parking lot outside a discount store at 5662 Arlington Drive.
Vatisla Thakkar, 56, of Hanover Park was found near the entrance of the store in a strip mall at about 1:30 p.m. Officials said the woman was stabbed and that foul play is suspected in the killing. The Chicago branch of the FBI and Villa Park investigators are searching for the man who robbed the Inland Bank, 305 W. St. Charles Road in Villa Park at about 9:45 am. The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic male, about 6 feet tall, in his mid-20s, with a thin to medium build. He was wearing a baseball cap and a white long-sleeved T-shirt. The Harris Bank of Hinsdale located at 50 S. Lincoln Street was robbed around 6:10 am. The robber stole cash from a bank safe before it opened for business. The man described as being between 25 and 30 years old, 5 foot 4 to 5 foot 5 inches tall, wearing a black knit hat, gray sweatshirt, black pants and a black scarf over his face, fled on foot before police arrived, and no one was injured.

WHEATON  03/06/2008

A man wearing a ski mask entered First National Bank, 1151 E. Butterfield Road, about 10:20 a.m. and demanded money from a bank teller. The robber displayed no weapons of any kind. He got an undisclosed amount of cash from the teller and left without injuring anyone. Darien Police Department's canine unit was called to conduct a search of the area. The suspect was not found. The suspect is described as been 6 feet tall with a large build. He wore dark clothing in addition to the ski mask over his face. VILLA PARK  01/07/2008 66-year-old Syrja and 67-year-old Safo Shehu were found murdered in their home at 46 W. Ridge Road. Police are searching for the man they believe killed his sleeping parents. ArturShehu, 33, is suspected of shooting his parents to death in the home the three of them shared. Shehu, an Albanian immigrant, remains at large. Police consider him armed and dangerous. Shehu is 33 year old male white, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, and weighs 195 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone who spots Shehu should call 911 and is urged not to approach him. Villa Park 09/14/2007Around 10 p.m., a Villa Park man was accosted by an unknown male before the suspect entered the man's home in the 900 block of South Euclid Avenue. The unknown male was dressed in dark clothes, roughly 6 feet tall, weighed 150 to 170 pounds, and showed the man what may have been a handgun and demanded the victim's wallet. Wheaton  06/28/2007About 2:30 a.m., robbers hit the White Hen at 1730 Roosevelt Road. Two men wearing white masks entered the store. The men indicated they had a weapon, but didn’t display one. After demanding money, the robbers fled with a small amount of cash. One of the robbers is described as being about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a heavy build and a white mask with a gray sweatshirt. The second robber also stood about 5 feet 6 inches tall, but had a thin build and wore a white mask with a black sweatshirt and white sleeves. Bensenville  06/22/2007About 11pm the shooting of a 24-year-old man in the parking lot of Westwood Apartments, 940 W. Irving Park Road, Bensenville took place. Bensenville Police are asking for the public’s help in finding several men responsible for shooting. Witnesses told police the victim exchanged words with three or four men in a pickup truck when one of the men in the vehicle pulled out a handgun and fired one shot. The victim was hit in the stomach. The truck then left the lot heading west on Irving Park Road. The occupants of the truck were described as three or four men about 18 years old traveling in a black, full-sized Dodge Ram pickup truck with an extended cab and sliding cab window. Wheaton 06/01/2007 Burglars hit five homes in the area of East Evergreen Street, West Park Avenue, North West Street, East Liberty Drive and College Avenue within the past few weeks. It is unclear if the burglaries were all committed by the same person or people. All the burglaries occurred during the day when residents were away at work and school. Burglars entered through unlocked windows or by breaking windows near doors. Carol Stream  03/19/07Around 11:00 pm there was a fire inside the apartment building located at 560 Gunderson.The entire building was evacuated and all of the buildings 29 families were displaced. Three people, including a firefighter, went to the hospital for minor injuries.There was fire damage and extensive smoke damage throughout the building. There was evidence of some form of an accelerant inside the first floor hallway. The fire was discovered when smoke alarms alerted residents. Glendale Heights  01/31/07At about 5:21 am the CVS Pharmacy, located at 230 E. North Avenue, had an unknown suspect entered the pharmacy, displayed a sliver semi-automatic handgun and demanded cash and drugs from the pharmacist. The pharmacist placed several prescription medications in a bag and gave them to the suspect. Over $11,000 of medications was stolen. The suspect fled the store and was seen leaving in an older green four-door vehicle. The suspect is described as a white male in his 20’s, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and 180 pounds. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a black suede jacket, blue jeans, Ivory colored baseball cap, black gloves and white tennis shoes. Police believe this and the Villa Park incident appear to be related.  Villa Park   01/31/07At about 4:00am the Walgreens, located at 200 E. Roosevelt Road had an unknown male suspect entered the pharmacy, and demanded specific items from the pharmacist. The suspect is described as a white male approximately 30 to 35 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with a stocky build. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a dark three quarter length jacket, blue jeans, and black and white tennis shoes. He is also believed to be wearing a baseball cap with the name "Ralph" written on the front. The suspect was unable to obtained any medications before fleeing the store. There is also a chance he may have driven an older green four-door vehicle, possibly a Toyota. Glendale Heights  12/19/06At approximately noon. The resident, an elderly female, was persuaded to allow a male subject into her home to check her water pipes and pressure. While she was in the basement with the subject, three other men entered her home. They went through the bedrooms upstairs, and stole a large amount of cash. The first subject distracted the woman while the others were inside the home. The subjects left in a DARK GREEN GMC 4DR TRUCK, with a partial plate of 87431. The first suspect is described as a male hispanic, 30-40 years old, shaved head, short, with thin build. That subject was a passenger in the vehicle. The driver was also a male hispanic, 30-40 years old, and heavy set. There is no further description of the other subjects. Unincorporated Oakbrook Terrace  12/25/2006
DuPage County Sheriff’s Detectives are investigating the homicide of Lauren M. Kiefer a 24 year old female at her residence of 1S348 Myrtle, Oakbrook Terrace. The Sheriff’s Office was called to the residence at 7:15 pm after a family member discovered the woman’s body. The cause of death is undetermined at this time, but appears to be blunt force trauma. At approximately 9:00 pm an armed robber entered the Leo's Wines and Liquors located on Hobson Road in Woodridge and produced a handgun demanding cash from the cash register. The offender is described as a male-white, 20-25 years of age, 5'10" in height, 160lbs., thin build with brown hair and light complexion. DARIEN  12/04/2006      COLD CASEDARIEN POLICE DEPARTMENT: Posted March 24, 2003 The Darien Police Department received a report of criminal damage to property and criminal trespass, that took place after 11:00 pm.m on March 18, 2003. A red 4 door UNI-CARRIER delivery sedan was parked behind the building at 1000 N. Frontage Rd., Darien, when an unknown vehicle backed into the Company vehicle on the passenger side.  The offending vehicle continued to push the vehicle into the curb causing extensive damage. The Winfield Police Departmentt is investigating the armed robbery of the Fifth Third Bank located at 1N111 County Farm Road. At about 5 p.m. a man entered the facility displaying a gun and demanded money from a teller. Four employees were in the bank at the time, but nobody was hurt. There were no customers present. The suspect was described as being between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall with an average build. He wore a black ski mask, winter coat and blue jeans. He escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. DARIEN 11/16/2006
The Darien Police Department is investigating a series of Criminal Damage to Vehicle incidents that have been occurring in the residential areas of Darien since mid July, 2006. Most of the incidents occur during the overnight hours. A BB type projectile is the suspected weapon. The vehicles targeted are mostly parked in residential driveways. The most recent incident occurred November 8th when two vehicles were dammaged. There is no definitive pattern of times, dates, neighborhoods or commonality of victims. An armed bank robbery occurred on Tuesday, 11/14/06, at 11:28 A.M., at the First Bank, 299 N. York Rd., Elmhurst. The offender implied having a gun, but did not display it. The offender was described as being a thin white male 6' in height in his late 40's with thinning grey hair, wearing dark glasses, a hoodie sweatshirt under a winter jacket, jeans, and gloves. WHEATON 10/19/2006
Police were dispatched about 8:20 p.m. to Sandberg’s Store for Men & Boys at 101 W. Front St.  When they arrived, they found several leather coats missing valued at an estimated $9,000. Shopkeeper Robert Sandberg, 68, and his friend Robert Cooke, 86, said it all started when a man at least 6 feet tall and 300 pounds entered the store just before 8 p.m. Sandberg showed the man his stock of coats and went to check a price. That’s when the situation turned violent. The man who delivered the blows to Sandberg is described as being up to 6 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 300 pounds and wearing a white T-shirt and gray pants. The second man, who possibly delivered the blows to Cooke, is described as about 6 feet, 1 inch tall and 180 pounds. Sandberg’s and Cooke’s descriptions of the suspects differ somewhat, but both agree there were four total. Sandberg believes the robbery might be related to a shoplifting incident a couple weeks ago. At approximately 2:45 PM unknown person(s) set fire to playground equipment located in the Windy Point Park, which is located in the 2100 block of Eggerton in Woodridge. HINSDALE 09/01/2006
At 6:53AM the Hinsdale Police Department responded to a call from a Burlington Northern & Santa Fee Employee stating that someone just lit off firecrackers in the main depot, 25 E. Hinsdale Ave. Upon arrival of the Hinsdale Police Department it was discovered that in fact an improvised explosive device was detonated in a receptacle can located in the depot. No extensive damage was sustained nor were there any injuries. The Hinsdale Police Department is working in conjunction with the Dupage County Bomb Squad, FIAT, ATF, FBI, JTTF and BNSF reference this incident. The Addison Police Department is investigating an Armed Robbery which
occured at the White Hen, 601 W. Lake St. at approx. 10:45 PM.
Two male black offenders entered the White Hen, offender #1 was armed with a blue
steel revovler which he pointed at the cashier and a customer demanding
money from the cash register.  Offender #2 hit the cashier in the head with
a brick, the cashier opened the register and the offender removed approx.
$200.00 USC.  Offender #1 armed with the revolver is described as a male black, 6'0,
thin build, late teens, wearing a doo rag,black T shirt, blue jeans and
white gym shoes.  Offender #2, armed with the brick, is a male black 6'0, thin
build, late teens, wearing a doo rag, T shirt, brown shorts, and a bandanna

Unincorporated Carol Stream 08/07/2006
DuPage County Sheriff’s detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man who approached a fifteen year old girl about 1:30 pm in unincorporated Carol Stream and attempted to lure her into his vehicle.
The girl was removing garbage cans from her driveway in the 1N200 block of Fanchon Street when a man driving what she described as a “newer model” red four door Dodge Neon pulled up and asked her out to lunch. When she refused his offer he opened his car door and she ran inside her house. The man is described a heavy-set white male, between 55 and 60 years of age, partially bald with a fringe of gray hair, a gray goatee with white streaks in it, and brown eyes. A call for a dumpster fire just before midnight, turned out to be an apparent arson outside a downtown Lombard business at 376 E. St. Charles Road. The fire extended from the base of the loading dock to the top of the building, The fire caused about $5,000 in damage to a door of a new tenant, Time-O-Matic, as well as damage to an outside light. ITASCA 02/052006 APPREHENDED
Case #1 - The Itasca Police Department is seeking help in identifying the offender(s) who have started 4 seperate fires throughout the Itasca town center area. LOMBARD 11/22/2005
Officers responded to Subway, 1109 E. Roosevelt Road, at about 9:55 p.m. where four male subjects had entered the restaurant and demanded money. They all had masks on and it is believed that the robbers were all males. They were all dressed in dark clothing and fled on foot. One of the subjects displayed a handgun and a second subject displayed a knife. An unknown amount of cash was taken in the robbery, as well as the purses of two employees, a cell phone and driver's license. GLENDALE HEIGHTS  11/02/2005
At 2:10 a.m., the Glendale Heights Police Department responded to a report of a man lying in the roadway in the 1900 block of Glen Ellyn Road. Responding officers discovered Willie E. Barfield, age 41, of Glendale Heights, lying in the roadway at that location.  He was pronounced dead at the scene Preliminary indications are Mr. Barfield was walking southbound in the 1900 block of Glen Ellyn Road south of Army Trail Road along the DuPage County East Branch Forest Preserve when he was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling northbound on that road.  That vehicle is believed to have sustained body damage, and is believed to be maroon in color. The Glendale Heights Police Department is still seeking the red 1994 Buick Regal Custom 4-door bearing Illinois registration T665 268, with right side and windshield damage. At approximately 8:15 PM  the Woodridge Police Department along with Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a fire in the Ides Grove East Park which is located in the 8100 block of Meadowood in Woodridge. Upon the arrival of responding officers they discovered the playground equipment to be totally involved in fire. A subsequent investigation indicated that the fire was set intentionally. The Woodridge Park District, who owns and maintains the property and equipment estimate the loss to the playground equipment and surrounding ground at approximately $40,000.00. LOMBARD 10/08/2005
Just after 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, a robbery occurred in the 100 block of West St. Charles Road. A 23-year-old Lombard woman was near the garage area of a condominium building when she heard footsteps and observed a male subject. The man was armed with a dark-colored club. He allegedly grabbed the woman's arm and held the club to her throat, reportedly telling her to give him her purse or "he would kill her. The subject took the woman's purse and fled northbound from the scene. He was described as a Hispanic male, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a thin build and possibly a shaved head or very short hair. He was wearing a dark hoodied sweat shirt and dark-colored jeans. WARRENVILLE 10/08/2005
Sheriff’s detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying a young boy whose remains were found in the vicinity of Ferry Road and Meadow Drive in unincorporated Naperville Township near Warrenville. The investigation so far has determined that the child was approximately 3 years old, and has short black hair. He was approximately 38 ½ inches tall and weighed between 25-30 pounds.  His race is unknown. The boy was wearing a navy blue collarless shirt with three buttons and navy blue pants with a nylon cotton blend shell with a white liner. The brand name of the clothing is Faded Glory, the size is 2T (toddler). Detectives have called in a forensic artist who specializes in facial reconstruction to assist in the identification of the child. The cause of death is still under investigation. At about 5:51 p.m., a 43-year-old Lombard woman was returning to her vehicle in the 1000 block of South Westmore/Meyers Road when she allegedly was held up at gunpoint. Reports show that the man reached for his waistband and allegedly displayed a small black revolver-type handgun, telling the woman to hand over her purse. The subject reportedly took the purse and left the area in a dark green vehicle. The offender was described as a black male, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a skinny build, long nose and short black hair. He was wearing a shirt with horizontal blue, green and white stripes and dark jeans. WHEATON 08/24/2005
Disorderly Conduct & Sexual AssaultThe Wheaton Police Department is investigating two recent incidents, one on 08/24/05, and one on 08/27/05, that are thought to be possibly related. The incident on 08/24/05, was reported as a Disorderly Conduct, when a female adult resident of an apartment in the 1100 block of College Ave. observed an adult male, possibly of Hispanic descent, looking into a window of her apartment at about 6:35 a.m.  She described the man as about 5'10", 180-200 lbs, clean-shaven, short brown hair and brown eyes, wearing a long sleeve green shirt and long pants.  She stated that the man left after she yelled to him that she was in the process of calling the Police Department.  A sketch of  the man was done, based on the complainant's recollection of his facial features.  (See below.) The incident on 08/27/05, was reported as a sexual assault which occurred during the time frame of 1:45 a.m. and 2:15 a.m. and was reported at about 2:20 a.m. by the victim, a female adult resident of an apartment in the 1300 block of College Ave.  She reported that an apparently adult male with darker skin, about 5'10", 250 lbs., with a dimple on his chin, wearing a tan long sleeve shirt, cargo pants, work-type gloves, and a black ski mask which covered most of his face, entered her apartment (later determined to be via cutting a window screen, accessing the deadbolt to the adjacent door, and then entering through the then unlocked door), and sexually assaulted her.  The offender left after the assault, and a man fitting the general description was last seen in the area of College Ave. and Chase St. The victim was treated at and released from an area hospital, and a Naperville Police Department K-9 Unit was used to attempt to track the path of the offender. ROSELLE 08/11/2005
Roselle police are searching for a young man whom they say assaulted a woman. Authorities said a male believed to be about 16 years old jumped the woman from behind while she was walking along Park Street north of Irving Park Road around 8:20 p.m. The assailant threw the woman to the ground and started touching her in inappropriate places. The victim, a woman in her 20s, immediately screamed and started struggling with her attacker. The woman suffered minor injuries from being pushed to the ground, but did not require medical attention. A witness saw the attacker run from the area and leave in what appeared to be a red, full-size, older-model vehicle. It was last seen traveling north on Prospect Street from Hattendorf Avenue. The attacker is described as being about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build and short, dark hair. He was wearing a light-colored plain T-shirt and light, casual shorts with no cargo pockets. WEST CHICAGO AREA   07/17/2005
Cops seek flasher suspect in 2 Prairie Path incidents DUPAGE COUNTY -- DuPage County sheriff's police are investigating separate reports by two women that a man exposed himself to them while they jogged on the Illinois Prairie Path in West Chicago.
A woman told police that she was jogging about noon on the Elgin Branch west of Illinois Highway 59 and south of Army Trail Road when a man came out of the brush on the side of the path and accosted her.
A similar incident occurred July 2 on the branch, near Diversey Parkway in West Chicago. Police believe the same man is responsible for both incidents based on the descriptions provided by victims.
The women told police the man appeared to be in his mid-30s and fled the area on a BMX bicycle.

Over 40 vehicles have been burglarized since March 2005 throughout the Village of Carol Stream. The most recent rash (23) of Burglary to Motor Vehicle (May 14 - June 14) occurred at the apartment complexes on the southeast side of town and now in the single family residential areas on the northwest side. Most of the vehicles parked at apartment complexes were getting their windows broken and stereos taken. Vehicles parked in the driveways of sinle famile residential areas are recently being targeted and entry gained because theyare unlocked, door locks not working, or victm is uncertain if the vehicle is secure. The offenders are striking on average every 2 days with most of the incidents ocuring between 2:00 AM - 5:00 AM, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM, 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM. CAROL STREAM 03/31/2005 "SOLVED THROUGH A CS TIP"
The Carol Stream Police Department is investigating a bank robbery that occurred at the National City Bank, 560 W. Army Trail Road, Carol Stream at 2:59 p.m. Bank officials called 9-1-1 and reported that a man had just robbed the bank and fled on foot. The robber implied that he had a gun but a weapon was never displayed. The teller surrendered an undetermined amount of cash and the subject then fled from the bank. The robber is a white male, in his early 20’s, approximately 6’0” tall with a thin build. He was wearing a dark brown and tan patterned flannel hunting style cap, blue jean jacket, blue jean pants and gym shoes. WARRENVILLE  03/10/2005
LaSalle Bank in Warrenville was robbed at 11:30 a.m. by a lone gunman wearing a ski mask. He was described as being 5'6" tall and dressed from head to toe in black and dark blue. After taking an undisclosed sum, the man got into a car and drove off from the bank at the northwest corner of Route 59 and Ferry Road, near the Naperville border. The car was found about a mile away.

LOMBARD 11/22/2004
A subject is wanted for questioning in the attempted armed robbery at Lilac Bakery, 348 S. Main St. The offender was described as a white male, about 30 to 35 years of age. He is about 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall with a stocky build, large nose and bushy eyebrows. He also had an infected or injured eye and a beard of several days growth. He was wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants. According to Lombard police Detective Bill Marks, the offender entered the bakery at about 4:40 p.m. allegedly displayed a knife and demanded money. No one was injured in the incident. The subject reportedly ran from the bakery on foot. Although officers flooded the area immediately following the incident, the subject was not located. ADDISON 10/03/2004  "SOLVED"
At 10:53 P.M., Addison Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 189 Michael Lane in Addison.  Upon arrival police found the victim, Jesus Campos, 18 years of age, 233 Dato, Streamwood, lying in the grass next to 189 Michael Lane.  Addison Fire Department paramedics transported Campos to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  The investigation revealed that Campos was with several friends in the alley of Michael Lane when a red over beige SUV drove through the alley. Apparently there were words exchanged with the occupants of the SUV, described as males in their late teens or early 20’s.  The vehicle then drove east on Michael Lane at which time the victim and his friends began to walk to the street from between the buildings.  Several shots were fired from the vehicle with at least one round striking the victim in the chest.  Police are investigating the possibility that this shooting is gang related.  If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to call the Addison Police Department at 630-543-3080. WHEATON 08/26-27/2004
Burglars broke into Wheaton North High School at the end of homecoming weekend and made off with a 500-pound safe containing profits from the football game. Authorities say they believe the culprits are in some way connected to the high school because they knew their way around the building and the whereabouts of the safe. Authorities suspect burglars gained entry after breaking the glass in a door on the school's south side near a construction area. The break-in occurred between 11 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday. Once inside, thieves forced their way into three rooms, one of which was the athletic director's office where a 3-foot-tall safe was kept. It held about $10,000 cash - most of which came from gate receipts from the Falcons' homecoming football game against Glenbard East High School.  Several checks, totaling up to an estimated $70,000 made out to Wheaton North High School that were kept in the safe, also are missing. Michael Alfonso a Chicago-area man on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list has been arrested in Mexico and will be extradited to the U.S. to be tried for the slayings of two suburban women.
Mexican authorities took Michael Alfonso into custody in Veracruz after a tipster spotted the man on the TV program, "America's Most Wanted. Alfonso first will face trial in DuPage County for the murder of Genoveva Velasquez, 28, of Glendale Heights. Velasquez was shot five times as she arrived for work at a Wheaton McDonald's restaurant the morning of June 6, 2001. He then is to be tried in Kendall County for the 1992 murder of Sumanear Yang. The Wheaton woman vanished in 1992, and her remains were found two months later in Silver Springs State Park, Yorkville, she had been shot in the head. Both women were ex-girlfriends of Alfonso.

ELMHURST  07/09/2004   **APPREHENDED**DuPage County police agencies are searching for a 38-year-old man, Anson Paape of 846 Hawthorne Avenue Elmhurst, he is believed to have killed 18-year-old Elmhurst resident Michael Murray. Police officials said the man they are looking for is to be considered armed, dangerous and possibly hiding up on tree limbs in local wooded areas. (Paape) may be a professional tree trimmer and likely is adept at climbing trees and resting on limbs. Two 14 year old Lombard juveniles sustained serious injuries after they were allegedly beaten by two teenagers near St. Charles and Main at about 5:48 p.m. After driving by and yelling gang names two subjects approached the juveniles and allegedly "started striking the two victims with a metal pipe and a chair spindle. A 30 year old man Derrick Manard was found dead in the hallway of his fourth-floor apartment at 130 E. George St. after witnesses reported hearing gunshots. Two residents and three visitors staying in the 22W300 block of Poplar Avenue told DuPage County Sherrif's that four or five armed men entered their home around 12:15 a.m. The men, each said to be carrying a gun, reportedly entered through an unlocked door. The five victims were then herded into a bedroom while the men searched the home. The men stole cash and some miscellaneous items. The suspects are all described as having black hair, with one being roughly 6 feet tall, weighing 250 to 300 pounds and wearing a black shirt with white stripes. GLEN ELLYN  02/27/2004Glen Ellyn police are investigating a string of 12 burglaries of downtown business since Jan. 24, and say because of a lot of similarties they could be related to the downtown Wheaton burglaries. The burglaries have generally occurred in the evening, some just after closing time. In many cases, rear doors are pried open or broken down and money taken from cash registers. Of the 12 Glen Ellyn break-ins, five were unsuccessful. LISLE     **UPDATE**   The sexual assault of a woman in Lisle early last year has been linked to a series of attacks this week stretching from Kenosha, Wis., to Chicago. Lisle police are working with the Chicago Police Department on the investigation, which links seven assaults over a period of five years. The Lisle attack, which took place at 11 p.m. March 27, 2003 was on a 48-year-old woman in a parking lot at the Four Lakes community. She was forced out of her vehicle and dragged into a wooded area, where she was sexually assaulted. Three of the attacks were linked after test samples were run through a DNA database. The offender is described as white, in his mid- to late 30s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, between 150 and 160 pounds with a wide, flat nose. He has worn a black ski hat, a puffy ski coat and jeans. Burglars hit yet another Wheaton shop. 
The number of Wheaton businesses affected by a string of burglaries and attempted break-ins continues to rise.
The burglary of Center Staj Hair Productions, at 210 N. Main St., had $610 in cash stolen sometime between 9 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. with no sign of forced entry. Sometime between 7 and 10 p.m., a bank bag containing checks, credit card receipts and $300 cash was taken out of College Station Cat Clinic, 1010 College Ave. Someone forced open the rear door of the business.
Authorities continue to encourage owners to secure their businesses at closing time and confirm that alarms are installed and functioning properly. DuPage County Sheriff's Department investigators are seeking two men who tried to lure two young boys into their car in an unincorporated area between Naperville and Lisle. The incident occurred at 2:40 p.m.  near Springdale and Steeple Run drives, in the unincorporated Steeple Run subdivision northwest of Benedictine University. Two preteen boys who live in the neighborhood were walking near a detention pond when a dark-colored car occupied by two men pulled up near them. The men offered the boys candy and asked them to come over to the car. The boys instead ran toward their homes. The car was described as mid-size and possibly black, the bulletin indicated. The driver and his passenger were described as white men, standing 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall with thin builds. Both men had dark hair, light to medium complexions, sideburns and small beards, according to the bulletin. Both wore black coats and black stocking caps. ELMHURST   01/22/2004The victim (age 75) reports she heard knocking at her front door on Willow Street at 2:20 pm.  When she opened the door, the subject (1) walked right into her house.  Subject (2) explained to her that she needed siding and directed her to the rear kitchen window, attempting to point out to her areas on the house that needed siding.  Both subjects then left.  The victim went upstairs to the bedroom and discovered her mattress overturned and cash missing from her purse that was in a dresser drawer. At 10:05 p.m. the Little Caesar's Pizza, at 1010 N. Washington St., a pizzeria just north of the city's downtown area was robbed at gun point. A man wearing a mask and armed with a handgun entered the pizzeria, accosting a male employee and forcing him to open a safe. The gunman then fled on foot after taking an undetermined amount of money. Lombard police are investigating an afternoon bank robbery. Authorities said the crime occurred about 2:15 p.m. at Westbank at 837 S. Westmore Ave. in Lombard's Eastgate Shopping Center. Lombard police are seeking the public's help in finding the suspects in three recent, unrelated robberies.
Police are looking for a 25- to 30-year-old man suspected of robbing Pizza Hut, 837 S. Westmore Ave., about 10:45 a.m. Monday, January 12th. A restaurant employee told police a man approached him as he was leaving the restaurant with a bank deposit. The man grabbed the envelopes, which held more than $2,000 in cash and numerous personal checks, and fled north toward Addison Road on foot. Today at approximately 8:30 a.m., a 23-year-old female/white subject was walking in the area of 5519 E. Bloomingdale police and the family of a pedestrian injured in a hit-and-run accident are looking for the driver of the car that left the scene. Josephine Fantauzzo was struck at 6:15 p.m. near the Mario Tricoci salon on Stratford Drive, a street going around the Stratford Square Mall.  Fantauzzo was waved on by the driver of a car while she was crossing the road, but another car hit her as she was walking and then drove away. Police said they have little details to go on except that the car is light-colored. Today at 1:15 pm a group of young girls were walking south on Primrose near the intersection of Kohley in the Meadows subdivision, unincorporated Lisle. They were approached by a young man who told them that he likes to wear girl’s panties. He then unzipped his pants and exposed his underwear to them. When the girls screamed the subject ran to his vehicle, a blue metallic two-door sports car with a spoiler on the trunk that was parked on Kohley, and sped off northbound on Primrose. Witness describe the suspect as a white male, in his late teens or early twenties, about 5’5” tall with a slim build, black hair, pale complexion and three moles on his right upper cheek. He was wearing baggy blue jeans and a black leather jacket. None of the girls were injured in the incident. A home at 3N465 Shagbark Drive just outside West Chicago was damaged heavily in a fire early this morning around 2:30 a.m.  The DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force was utilized to try to determine the cause. WEST CHICAGO   10/29/2003
West Chicago police are searching for the man who robbed the Dragon Chinese restaurant, 125 Roosevelt Road around 2 p.m. The man told the two employees he had a gun under a black plastic bag and demanded money.  One employee stated she could see the robbers handgun. The workers turned over an undisclosed amount of cash and the man fled. It was unknown if he left in a car or on foot.
Before entering the restaurant, the man donned a mask that left only his eyes and nose exposed. However, a witness outside reported seeing the man put on the mask before entering the restaurant and was able to give a detailed physical description of the suspect. The suspect is described as being between 6 feet 1 inch and 6 feet 3 inches tall and between 200 and 240 pounds with a fair complexion and blond, graying, receding hair, possibly worn in a ponytail. He was wearing a dark-colored, waist-length canvas jacket. His pants matched the color of his jacket. The suspect's description is similar to that of another man sought for the recent armed robbery of a West Chicago gas station.

Police responded to a retail theft complaint at Sam's Club, 1006 N. Rohlwing Road, after the manager said a man and a woman had just left the store after attempting to steal DVDs. The suspects also were observed at the store Sept. 4, Sept. 6 and Sept. 7, according to police. The two had taken 57 DVDs valued at $1067.27. They fled the parking lot in a silver 1999 Mitsubishi, according to witnesses. The suspects were described as a 6-foot-tall man, about 25 years old, with short black hair and weighing 175 pounds, and a woman between 22 to 25 years old about 5 feet 2 inches tall with short black hair, weighing 115 to 120 pounds. A DuPage County man remained in critical condition Tuesday (08/26) as police searched for the assailants who opened fire on him a day earlier while he rode a bike from his home. Ranko Kukic, 32, hadn't improved enough to answer detectives' questions about the shooting. Still, officials are confident the gunman targeted him in the shooting. Sheriff's deputies rushed to the 1N100 block of Papworth Street early Monday (08/25) after residents of the unincorporated neighborhood near Wheaton reported hearing gunshots. Police found Kukic at 12:45 a.m. lying on the street near his mother's home, where he lives. Kukic was shot several times with a small-caliber handgun, sheriff's police said, before his attackers sped south on Papworth Street toward Geneva Road. A man with a black gun robbed the Smoke Lovers cigarette shop, 2051 Bloomingdale Road, of more than $150 at about 1:57 p.m. No arrests were made and no one was injured. Lombard police also are searching for an armed robber who stole $800 in cash from a Citgo gas station about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, January 8th. A man wearing a black ski mask and dark clothes pointed a handgun at the cashier and demanded money. The suspect, a man about 5 foot 4 inches tall with a medium build, then fled on foot.

Lastly, police are asking for help in identifying two men suspected of robbing a man at an ATM in a bank foyer about 7 p.m. Oct. 2  2003. The two men are suspected of using a stun gun to rob a 78-year-old Villa Park man at a bank on Westmore Avenue in Lombard. The incident was captured on bank security video. An image from the video was released by police. The two male suspects are believed to be in their late teens or early 20s. One suspect had short, light-colored hair and wore a baseball cap, gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and sneakers. The other had long, dark, curly hair and wore a baseball cap, white T-shirt, black leather jacket, blue jeans and white shoes or sandals.

At about 7:25 p.m. today, a resident reported to police that he had heard his dog barking near his garage. Upon entering the garage, the resident "was surprised" by an unknown subject in his garage. The man ran out of the garage, apparently knocking the resident to the ground in the process. The subject was described as a white male, about 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He had short brown hair and was wearing a blue jean jacket and blue jeans.
While there have been no other reports like this, on Jan. 5 there was a residential burglary in the 100 block of Orchard Terrace and just a week later, on Jan. 12, a home in the 200 block of West Grove also was burglarized. Three unmasked male white subjects using handguns, entered the Bailey Banks & Biddle store 110 Oakbrook Center Mall, soon after it opened at 10 a.m. Upon entering they engaged in a brief conversation and then announced the robbery. They proceeded to tied up and bound the employees in the store's back room. The robbers then emptied the display cases of jewelry and diamonds worth $1,356,000.00 and then escaped. After the men grabbed the jewelry and ran, a store employee freed themself and called police. ELMHURST   01/22/2004The victim (age 75) reports she heard knocking at her front door on Willow Street at 2:20 pm.  When she opened the door, the subject (1) walked right into her house.  Subject (2) explained to her that she needed siding and directed her to the rear kitchen window, attempting to point out to her areas on the house that needed siding.  Both subjects then left.  The victim went upstairs to the bedroom and discovered her mattress overturned and cash missing from her purse that was in a dresser drawer. At 10:05 p.m. the Little Caesar's Pizza, at 1010 N. Washington St., a pizzeria just north of the city's downtown area was robbed at gun point. A man wearing a mask and armed with a handgun entered the pizzeria, accosting a male employee and forcing him to open a safe. The gunman then fled on foot after taking an undetermined amount of money. Lombard police are investigating an afternoon bank robbery. Authorities said the crime occurred about 2:15 p.m. at Westbank at 837 S. Westmore Ave. in Lombard's Eastgate Shopping Center. Lombard police are seeking the public's help in finding the suspects in three recent, unrelated robberies.
Police are looking for a 25- to 30-year-old man suspected of robbing Pizza Hut, 837 S. Westmore Ave., about 10:45 a.m. Monday, January 12th. A restaurant employee told police a man approached him as he was leaving the restaurant with a bank deposit. The man grabbed the envelopes, which held more than $2,000 in cash and numerous personal checks, and fled north toward Addison Road on foot. He was described as being about 6 feet tall with a medium build and brown hair. He wore a white shirt and blue jeans.

Bloomingdale police and the family of a pedestrian injured in a hit-and-run accident are looking for the driver of the car that left the scene. Josephine Fantauzzo was struck at 6:15 p.m. near the Mario Tricoci salon on Stratford Drive, a street going around the Stratford Square Mall.  Fantauzzo was waved on by the driver of a car while she was crossing the road, but another car hit her as she was walking and then drove away. Police said they have little details to go on except that the car is light-colored. Today at 1:15 pm a group of young girls were walking south on Primrose near the intersection of Kohley in the Meadows subdivision, unincorporated Lisle. They were approached by a young man who told them that he likes to wear girl’s panties. He then unzipped his pants and exposed his underwear to them. When the girls screamed the subject ran to his vehicle, a blue metallic two-door sports car with a spoiler on the trunk that was parked on Kohley, and sped off northbound on Primrose. Witness describe the suspect as a white male, in his late teens or early twenties, about 5’5” tall with a slim build, black hair, pale complexion and three moles on his right upper cheek. He was wearing baggy blue jeans and a black leather jacket. None of the girls were injured in the incident. A home at 3N465 Shagbark Drive just outside West Chicago was damaged heavily in a fire early this morning around 2:30 a.m.  The DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force was utilized to try to determine the cause. West Chicago police are searching for the man who robbed the Dragon Chinese restaurant, 125 Roosevelt Road around 2 p.m. The man told the two employees he had a gun under a black plastic bag and demanded money.  One employee stated she could see the robbers handgun. The workers turned over an undisclosed amount of cash and the man fled. It was unknown if he left in a car or on foot.
Before entering the restaurant, the man donned a mask that left only his eyes and nose exposed. However, a witness outside reported seeing the man put on the mask before entering the restaurant and was able to give a detailed physical description of the suspect. The suspect is described as being between 6 feet 1 inch and 6 feet 3 inches tall and between 200 and 240 pounds with a fair complexion and blond, graying, receding hair, possibly worn in a ponytail. He was wearing a dark-colored, waist-length canvas jacket. His pants matched the color of his jacket. The suspect's description is similar to that of another man sought for the recent armed robbery of a West Chicago gas station.

A man with a black gun robbed the Smoke Lovers cigarette shop, 2051 Bloomingdale Road, of more than $150 at about 1:57 p.m. No arrests were made and no one was injured. Lombard police also are searching for an armed robber who stole $800 in cash from a Citgo gas station about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, January 8th. A man wearing a black ski mask and dark clothes pointed a handgun at the cashier and demanded money. The suspect, a man about 5 foot 4 inches tall with a medium build, then fled on foot.

Lastly, police are asking for help in identifying two men suspected of robbing a man at an ATM in a bank foyer about 7 p.m. Oct. 2  2003. The two men are suspected of using a stun gun to rob a 78-year-old Villa Park man at a bank on Westmore Avenue in Lombard. The incident was captured on bank security video. An image from the video was released by police. The two male suspects are believed to be in their late teens or early 20s. One suspect had short, light-colored hair and wore a baseball cap, gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and sneakers. The other had long, dark, curly hair and wore a baseball cap, white T-shirt, black leather jacket, blue jeans and white shoes or sandals.

At about 7:25 p.m. today, a resident reported to police that he had heard his dog barking near his garage. Upon entering the garage, the resident "was surprised" by an unknown subject in his garage. The man ran out of the garage, apparently knocking the resident to the ground in the process. The subject was described as a white male, about 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He had short brown hair and was wearing a blue jean jacket and blue jeans.
While there have been no other reports like this, on Jan. 5 there was a residential burglary in the 100 block of Orchard Terrace and just a week later, on Jan. 12, a home in the 200 block of West Grove also was burglarized. Three unmasked male white subjects using handguns, entered the Bailey Banks & Biddle store 110 Oakbrook Center Mall, soon after it opened at 10 a.m. Upon entering they engaged in a brief conversation and then announced the robbery. They proceeded to tied up and bound the employees in the store's back room. The robbers then emptied the display cases of jewelry and diamonds worth $1,356,000.00 and then escaped. After the men grabbed the jewelry and ran, a store employee freed themself and called police. BANK ONE E-MAIL FRAUD  02/2004
Recently, identity thieves have been sending bogus e-mails to trick customers into divulging personal or financial information. Many of the e-mails feature company logos and language. In addition, some show exact copies of company website pages.
“Phishing,” as the practice is called, has been widespread throughout the past several weeks and shows no signs of stopping. In fact, an estimated 60 million such e-mails were sent during the last two weeks of 2003.

The Lisle Police Department responded to a report of a bank robbery at approximately 2:30 p.m., at the Harris Bank, 1050 Maple Avenue.  Preliminary investigation revealed the suspect entered the bank and approached a teller, subsequently demanding cash.  A weapon was implied by not displayed.  The suspect fled the bank with an undetermined amount of United States currency and was last seen fleeing the area eastbound through the parking lot in a navy blue Honda Civic.  The Lisle Police Department, in conjunction with the FBI, is continuing the investigation into this incident.  If anyone recognizes the subject, please contact the Lisle Police Department at 630-271-4200.  Anyone having information about this crime, or any other serious unsolved crime should call DuPage County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-424-9119.
