Scholastic Crime Stoppers The DuPage County Crime Stoppers goal is to have 100% safe schools. Kids today are faced with a lot of dangers, dating violence, internet predators, bullying, drugs, underage drinking and more. If someone brings drugs, a gun, knife or any other weapon to school, Crime Stoppers want's to know. The Crime Stopper Program allows an avenue for students to submit anonymous tips about non-urgent illegal activities such as unsolved cases, vandalism, theft, the sale and distribution of drugs, possession of weapons. While furnishing information that could prevent someone from harming themselves or others is important, the success or failure of the program often depends upon the support of the school administration. The more encouragement and power the administration gives the student board, the more successful the program will be. This program will be student operated. An eight person board of directors composed of two students from each upper grade shall be appointed to market and advertise the program, review information about crimes and determine the reward amounts. The eight-member board shall never know who the victim, witnesses or suspects are. These identities shall be protected by an administrative liaison that is affiliated with the program. The School is encouraged to tailor the program to its specific needs. Logos, mottos, flyers, by-laws and other aspects of the program shall be structured to fit this institution. The students shall be challenged to be creative in developing their program. The Board of Directors shall be responsible for implementing the crime stoppers hotline, billboards, contests, designated crime stopper days and parades to disseminate their message that crime will no longer be tolerated. The only limits to the success of the program are those placed on it by the Administrators, the Board of Directors and the students.
